Look out Sin City! Prickly "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell wants to make Las Vegas the setting for the U.S. version of popular British show "The X Factor." Sir Philip Green, the billionaire partnering with Cowell on "X Factor," tells the New York Post , "Vegas is tailor-made for this show. To sing in Vegas? I mean, hell, you get to the final 12 [and tell them] 'Your dream's come true -- you're going to sing in Vegas!'" So let's see if we've got this right... a show that will feature singers where the ultimate prize is performing in Las Vegas, helmed by someone with the name and cache to bring in big names to judge and mentor? Watch out "America's Got Talent," "The X Factor" is coming for you. Let's be honest, "America's Got Talent" is practically a singing competition anyway, so how will "The X Factor" be any different? If you're over 21, you can now play slot machines based on two of your favorite shows, "American Idol" and "Sex and the City." Both slots were new releases at the 2009 Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. In "American Idol," slot players can trigger a bonus round that lets them become one of three judges -- Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi or Randy Jackson -- and then plays video clips of past contestants, good AND bad. According to Sphere.com , Paula Abdul was the lone holdout participant even BEFORE she announced she was leaving the show. Innnteresting. Meanwhile, the "Sex and the City" slot machines are subtitled "Change of a Dress." Clever, no? They feature bonus rounds that include video clips of all four women plus Mr. Big. International Game Technology spokeswoman Julie Brown told Sphere, "There's shoes and purses and lots of bling and big bonuses and the music track, and it's a very interactive game." Regis Philbin taking down time for hip surgery

The man who's spent more time on TV than anyone in history will be taking some time off soon. Regis Philbin says he'll take a leave of absence from "Live with Regis and Kelly" to have hip surgery. He's scheduled to go under the knife in New York on Dec. 1, following a week of shows in Las Vegas this week. "I'm going to have my hip replaced. I've been limping around here, and it really is painful," Philbin said on Monday's show. "I'll be back next year." Philbin, 78, holds the Guinness world record for having spent the most hours on camera. As of 2006, the last time the record was updated, he had logged 15,662 hours on screen; three more years of "Live," hosting "Million Dollar Password" on CBS and other guest and talk-show appearances have only added to that. No one will threaten that record in the time he's out; the show says recovery time for the surgery is usually four to six weeks, which could have Philbin back on the air in mid-January. " American Idol " 7 winner David Cook hit Las Vegas yesterday for a "Live with Regis and Kelly" performance scheduled to air Monday morning. But don't freak if you're a Cook-lover and missed his appearance on the show.
